We have just experienced one of our most productive Vacation Bible Schools to date! We had a record attendance, many salvation decisions and several children followed the Lord in believer’s baptism. We celebrated the culmination of this week with a special children’s program on Sunday, and we were privileged to see some of the parents come forward for salvation during the service. I believe that is cause for rejoicing! Although the enthusiasm level has been off the charts, have you ever noticed that after an awesome Vacation Bible School or a tremendous Teen Camp there seems to be a “let-down”? We need to work hard to make sure we don’t experience such crippling “let-downs” by remembering that we serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords; He deserves our best at all times. Here are six suggestions for keeping every Sunday a special event:
- If a church or class has experienced a time of victory, commemorate it with pictures or theme verses and phrases posted on the walls. This will serve as a reminder of what the Lord accomplished and will keep the “thrill” alive in the minds of the students.
- Determine to make every class time or event as special as you can. Bring a special guest; decorate your room; or even rearrange the classroom. Think of ways to keep things interesting.
- Prepare to present the best possible message in the following class time or service. It will keep the spirit buoyant and will challenge you to rise in your level of ministry for Christ.
- Plan activities for your class or group. You can plan for many events that are fun-filled and exciting without a great deal of expense. Photo scavenger hunts and spaghetti dinners don’t cost a great deal but they are a lot of fun.
- Before you finish one great season of ministry, begin announcing the next. Create a spirit of expectancy within your students.
- Project excitement and enthusiasm in all that you do. If you are not excited about the work of the Lord, your students won’t be either.
Remember that if you are struggling with fear or anxiety over how to keep from a “let-down” talk to the Lord about it in prayer. Also, get with your spiritual leaders for input and enlist their aid. When they offer good advice, follow it. Chances are it will be the formula for continued vibrancy in your area of service.
